Join us for special workshops and activities for British Science Week 2025!

Available on 10, 11 or 13 March, there are 5x 45minute slots during the day, 1 of which is lunch (we will book you a lunch space, timings will range from 11am-1pm).

For your 4 activity slots, you will have 1 workshop and 3 teacher-led activities.

Workshops - choose 1 - led by our staff or other experts
Under the Lens (Newcastle University’s Cell Detectives)
Explore the microscopic world of biology and marvel at the intricate details of life. Students will also have the opportunity to build their own LEGO microscope. Tailored for Years 5–7, Monday 10 & Tuesday 11 only.

Secrets of the Nervous System (Newcastle University’s Cell Detectives)
Dive into the complexities of human biology and unravel the captivating story of Phineas Gage. Designed for Years 7–11. Monday 10 & Tuesday 11 only.

Geology Rocks (Cees van der Land, geologist at Newcastle University)
Explore the fascinating world of rocks, minerals, and the processes that shape our planet. Perfect for Years 3–6, this session is packed with hands-on learning and fun! Monday 10 & Thursday 13 only.

Hoot-Worthy Science: Owls (Natural History Society of Northumbria)
Learn about these amazing creatures from local naturalists and have a go at dissecting an owl pellet! Years 4-6, Tuesday 11 only.

Light & Space (Dr Vicky Fawcett, Newcastle University)
Investigate visible light and the light we can't see, using scientific equipment, whilst meeting a space scientist! Monday 10 only, Years 5-7.
Groups choosing this workshop will have an associated teacher-led session where they can make their own spectroscopes to take away with them!

Generation Hope Newcastle: Explore British Science Week 2025’s theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ with curator and storyteller Justine Boussard, aka the Amateur Ancestor. In this mind-expanding participatory workshop, students will be taken on an cross-curricular guided tour through the museum before taking part in an engaging activity exploring what it means to be good ancestors. Year 8+. This session takes up 2 slots on your timetable (2 hours total), maximum students per session of 15. All 3 dates.
