By Metro
Make your visit a great value day out by travelling to our venues by the Metro. Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry with a fare-paying adult.
Tyne and Wear Metro is our official Travel Partner.
Those who are 21 and under can now access single fare bus, Metro and Shields Ferry journeys for just £1. The new offer makes public transport a more affordable way for young people to travel to our museums and galleries and covers many services in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham.

The Great North Museum: Hancock is a five-minute walk from Haymarket Metro station. The Museum is well signposted from Haymarket.

By rail
Mainline rail connections to Newcastle upon Tyne arrive at Newcastle Central Station and the Haymarket Metro Station is two stops away on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

By bus
The Great North Museum: Hancock is a five-minute walk from Haymarket bus interchange which is served by numerous local bus services.
The Museum is well signposted from Haymarket bus station.

By coach
There is a coach drop off point on Claremont Road (B1318) to the left side of the museum. Our postcode is NE2 4PT.
The nearest available coach parking is on Ord Street by the Newcastle Arena. For further information, please contact the Newcastle City Council Parking Department on (0191) 261 4503.
By bicycle
We have rack space for at least 10 bicycles outside the main entrance of the Museum.
By car
Newcastle is easily accessible by road via the A1 from the north and south and the A69 from the west.
The Great North Museum: Hancock can be found on Barras Bridge but there is no public parking on site.

Clean Air Zone
From 30 January 2023, a Clean Air Zone covers part of Newcastle and Gateshead. The Great North Museum: Hancock sits just outside the Clean Air Zone. Not all vehicles have to pay a charge. Private cars and motorbikes do not have to pay. Learn more about the Clean Air Zone at breathe-cleanair.com
Blue Badge parking
We have two parking bays available for Blue Badge holders only.
