Learning - British Science Week 2025
What's on for British Science Week 2025?
Celebrate British Science Week 2025 with a range of inspiring activities at the museum! Whether you learn how Science adapts to the law around it (and vice versa), explore evolution through hands-on activities to see how species have changed over time, or meet a scientist and hear about their research, you're sure to have a great visit.
Y11-13| Thursday, 6 March, 5-6:30pm | Talk: Science in Unexpected Places
Join us on the eve of British Science Week to learn about intriguing impacts of Science in unexpected places: the courtroom, art gallery, museum and more. Not sure how to combine your Science studies with other subjects and interests? Interested in a career that uses Science beyond the lab? This event is for you.
Plus, did you hear about the macaque who took a selfie?
KS2-3 | 10, 11, or 13 March | Visits including hands-on workshops
Bring the curriculum to life with interactive workshops led by university scientists and local experts. Covering a range of national curriculum topics and connecting to the museum’s collection, these sessions will captivate students in KS2-3. Book your visit for an unforgettable day of learning.
Y8+ | 10, 11, or 13 March | Generation Hope: Newcastle
Explore British Science Week 2025’s theme of ‘Change and Adapt’ with curator and storyteller Justine Boussard, aka the Amateur Ancestor. In this mind-expanding participatory workshop, students will be taken on an cross-curricular guided tour through the museum before taking part in an engaging activity exploring what it means to be good ancestors.
A Climate Museum UK project, delivered in collaboration with the Natural History Museum as part of the Fixing Our Broken Planet: Interconnected programme.
Home educators | 12 March 12:30-3:30 | Evolution day
Explore the fascinating processes of natural selection and the theory of evolution with hands-on activities designed for home educators. Connect these concepts to our natural history and fossil collections and (optional) see a special planetarium show about the cells that make up living things!
SEND | 14 March | SEND Schools and Groups Day
Enjoy a bespoke day tailored to the needs of SEND schools and groups, with a relaxed environment and flexible activity options. Activities include sensory stories, object handling sessions, a relaxed planetarium experience, and breakout spaces. Plus the opportunity to meet our access to volunteering group, give feedback on our offer and help us design some new resources!
Please note, SEND classes are welcome on any date that suits the level and needs of the class, and we will make any adaptations we can to make this accessible to your group (please tell us what you need when you book). The SEND specific day will have a wider range of adaptations available than on a typical term-time date, so may be suitable for classes/groups who haven't been able to visit before.
