The museum held an award ceremony for 7 primary schools

Local schools are celebrating their recent School of Sanctuary Award. They received the award in collaboration with Newcastle City Council. The museum held an award ceremony for 7 primary schools.

Children and teachers participated in activities and got their awards. They showed what makes their schools welcoming to those with forced migration experiences. Students marked their schools on a map of Newcastle and made drawings of their school as a safe place.

What is the School of Sanctuary Award?

Schools that show they welcome refugees and asylum seekers receive the School of Sanctuary Award. The schools educate everyone about the difficulties these individuals experience. Earning this award takes at least a year. During this time, teachers reflect on their work and Improve lessons and activities. Teachers give lessons about migration, refugee experiences, and human rights.
