Inspired by THE HERDS

We're joining THE HERDS, a ground-breaking work of public art and climate action on an unprecedented scale featuring life-size puppet animals travelling 20,000km from Central Africa to the furthest tip of Northern Europe.

With support from Art Fund, we're bringing this vital conversation to our local community, alongside museums across the country, by hosting events and activities inspired by the project and our connection with the natural world.

Take part in creating a large-scale collaborative artwork

On Saturday 17 May, 6-10.30pm, join us at the Great North Museum: Hancock to create a large-scale collaborative animal puppet with Moving Parts Arts inspired by THE HERDS. The large-scale puppet will then take residence in the Museum for regular visitors to experience and showcasing THE HERDS as they progress on their global migration route. Find out more about this event.

Our work with Newcastle Town Moor School

From 17 – 27 June, the Great North Museum: Hancock will host their annual collaboration with the Newcastle Town Moor School – a two week-long programme which specifically serves the showmen's families who run the annual Hoppings Fair on the Newcastle Town Moor. The children, aged 4-11, will create their own animal puppets inspired by THE HERDS, exploring themes of migration and movement. Find out more about the learning programmes offered at the Museum.
