A day of activities for Home Educated families
Background

The Great North Museum: Hancock have an annual program of activities for home educated families. A pivotal part of this program is our takeover day, where we provide a large range of activities throughout the museum for families to take part in. Activities are drop in, craft and experimental based or object handling, covering a wide range of subjects and topics. The audience tends to be of a primary age but we do have some Tweens and under 5’s.
Objectives of this activity
We are looking for a creative practitioner to run an activity as part of this event.
- To plan an activity around a STEAM topic (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Maths)
- For the activity to be suitable for a Primary age range, but adaptable for those older
- For the activity to be able to provide opportunity for up to 300 young people to participate in a drop in style over the course of the event
- To provide opportunities to make or have a go.
Deadline for submission of proposals
Friday 6 December 2024, 5pm
Criteria
We are looking for a someone who is:
- Experienced in delivering activities of a similar nature with young people and enthusiastic to share knowledge and inspire this audience
- Can run a drop-in style activity over the course of the event (9am - 2pm)
- Experienced in running high a quality activity for families, children and/or young people
- Can run an activity that links to the collection
- Can run an activity in a STEAM area
- Has PLI coverage of £5million.
Timescale
- Proposals must be received by 5pm on Friday 6 December 2024
- Reviews of applications will begin in December
- Successful applicant will be contacted early January 2025
- Activity delivery March 28, 2025.
Quotation assessment
There is a fixed price (inclusive of VAT) for this work, including all time, travel, materials, subsistence and other costs to deliver the full activity.
Fee
£280 day fee, which includes
- 5 hours of direct delivery (9am - 2pm)
- 1 hours set up and pack down
- Your activity prep time as required
- 1 hour meeting with GNM: H team.
Proposals
Based upon the information we have provided could you explain the activity you would deliver. Could you highlight how this links to our collection and any similar experience you have.
Please submit your proposal, on no more than 500 words, explaining how the activity can work as a drop-in activity. Please also include, where possible 3 photographic/video examples of your practice. Submit this as a word document, video or recording, by email to: morgan.fail@twmuseums.org.uk. Proposals must be received by 5pm on Friday 6 December 2024.
