About

Make and Take

It’s an ocean themed day at the museum this week and we have lots on to get your flippers flapping! You can have a go at making a sandy starfish to take home with you or take part in or underwater animated sea space with local Artists leading you into a watery world of colour and movement.

Show and Share

There will be information stalls from The Wild Oyster Project, where you can learn about the Oysters coming back to our local shores and other salty sea highlights from our environmental records team ‘ERIC’.

We also have a very exciting ‘Monsters of the Deep’ session in the Library with Tamsin, our Librarian, where you can learn about some of the mythical creatures of the oceans from history. Online pre-booking required.

Ever heard of a giant Kraken? This session will introduce you to all the mysterious creatures who swim through the dark seas of history and some who are still, very occasionally, believed to be sighted today.

Tales and Trails

Why not finish your day off with a visit to our latest exhibition ‘Ostracod Odyssey’ in Exhibition Hall 1. Did you know these creatures survive in water all over the world and give us a good idea of how our sea environmental conditions change as the climate changes.

Ways to Play

Make your Ways to Play adventure a great value day out by travelling to our venues by the Metro, Ferry or Bus.

Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry with a fare-paying adult. Metro is the convenient, fast and frequent way to get to your favourite attractions and now it’s even more affordable.

Up to three kids aged 11 and under can travel for free on bus services operated by Arriva North East, Go North East or Stagecoach this summer.

Ways to Play is sponsored by Tyne and Wear Metro.
