Until Thursday 21 June
The Great North Museum: Hancock is closed to visitors from Monday 21 May - Thursday 21 June 2018 (inclusive) so that we can install a new exhibition.
We reopen at 1pm on Friday 22 June.
We are very excited for you to see Which Way North, our contribution to the Great Exhibition of the North this summer. The show will explore the heart and soul of Northern England and tell exciting stories about artists, designers and innovators who have made the region so great. We have over 200 loans coming to the museum from around the UK with highlights including the last piano played by John Lennon and the iconic painting Whistlejacket.
We've taken the necessary decision to close the museum temporarily while we bring the exhibition to life. With building and installation works taking place in most of our galleries, it's the safest thing to do.
If you use our library or society offices, you will still be able to access these facilities. Please enter via the side doors at the rear of the museum.
This is an exciting exhibition with displays throughout the whole building and we hope you will agree that it is worth the upheaval. We reopen with the launch of Which Way North at 1pm on Friday 22 June.
