Need to know
Please note that the Museum will be open to all visitors, but numbers are always lower on a Sunday, so we’ve taken the opportunity to make it more sensory friendly on these dates. The earlier in the day you visit, the quieter it is likely to be!
For quieter visits on weekdays in school term time, we would recommend coming in after 2.30pm when school groups have usually all departed. We will not be reducing ambient sound levels at those times, but there will be fewer visitors in the building.
About
Quiet Sundays are a relaxed and welcoming opportunity for autistic visitors, visitors with learning disabilities or sensory and communication disorders, along with their families and carers to enjoy the Great North Museum: Hancock.
The Museum will have reduced sound levels throughout the day, making it a more comfortable environment for those who are sensitive to noise.
We will also be running a Planetarium show in an autism friendly format, with reduced sound levels and the house lights slightly on. Please buy your tickets at the Museum Shop on the day (limited capacity).
The show is:
12 noon – We Are Aliens - This show takes you on an epic ride in the hunt for the evidence of alien life. 25 minutes. £3.75 per person.
Please note that there is no public parking on site and there are limited blue badge spaces which are available on the day on a first come first served basis. If you have a blue badge and the spaces are full then we will endeavour to find an alternative parking spot on site.
We welcome feedback from our visitors as it helps us to evaluate what we're doing right and where we can improve. If you would like to send us feedback about Quiet Sundays, please contact us by email: info@greatnorthmuseum.org.uk
