Meet Amy

Assistant Learning Officer

I co-facilitate our extensive early years learning programme, working with children of various ages, from zero to five years old. I also have experience in supporting children with additional needs and I am trained in Makaton up to stage 4.

I think it’s really important to give our youngest visitors a warm museum welcome. I love encouraging our smallest visitors, and their grownups, to explore the museum together, discovering which museum objects they are most interested in. We strive to make the museum somewhere our smallest visitors want to visit again and again, a place where their confidence can continue to grow with each visit.

I am a Newcastle University graduate with a BA in Ancient History and an MA in Museum Studies. I initially joined the museum learning team as a volunteer, while studying at university. I love being able to say that I now work here at the museum.

One of the things I enjoy most is making our objects accessible to our visitors, seeing their reactions and making their visit memorable.

From T-rex, to Egyptian Mummy, to Japanese Spider Crab, our wonderfully diverse museum collection really does have something to excite everyone!
